We're officially moved in. We've had a couple days to get settled, meet the neighbors, clean and cook dinner, etc but we're just missing one detail - a couch. We've had quite a furniture journey. Before we got married we scored quite possibly the most comfortable sectional of all time at an estate sale, but we didn't want to haul it across country and thought it would be easy to find a new couch when we arrived. It was so easy the first time, so it would be easy again, right? Wrong!
First problem, the apartment entry was so small that it was tricky to fit any substantial piece of furniture through the door. So, we bought a couple different things but ended up returning them both. The first was a slim line couch from Crate and Barrel. It fit through the door but it just wasn't a "lounge" couch. The second was a chair from the Lancaster line at Restoration Hardware but what we really wanted was the couch (which wouldn't fit!) so we ended up returning it too because if felt like we were settling for the chair when we really wanted the couch... and it was too expensive to feel like we were settling.
But now that we're in the house we don't have to worry about the size issue, so it should be easier, right? Wrong. For some reason both Seth and I have the hardest time justifying "investing" in a couch when we have a toddler (fingerprints) and might be moving again before too long and not want to be committed to a couch for the next ten years to justify the cost... so we decided we don't want to spend a lot. But the things you can get for cheap are so depressing! So instead of getting something we don't like we've gotten - nothing.
So we sit on the floor. :)
I'm really hoping that craigslist will come through for us... I'm hoping we can find a nice quality couch at a good price. Wish us luck! It has to exist out there somewhere...
